The Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle is the Cheltenham Festival’s premier hurdles event for novice stayers. The race is run over a distance of 3 miles and features 12 hurdles. Entry is restricted to racehorses over the age of 4.

The Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle, also known as the Spa Novices’ Hurdle, was introduced to the Cheltenham Festival in 2005 as part of the festival’s expansion program. The event is used to blood future World Hurdle contenders.

Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle Winners

The Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle has featured a number of quality hurdlers during its short history. The most notable winner of the race to date was 2007 champion Wichita Lineman. This Jonjo O’Neill trained gelding went on to win the William Hill Trophy in 2009, before his career ended prematurely with a fatal fall at the first fence at the 2009 Irish Grand National.
