The Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase is one of the oldest races at the Cheltenham Festival. This handicap steeplechase is run over a distance of 2 miles 110 yards and features 14 fences. Entry to the race is restricted to 5-year-old and above chasers.
The Grand Annual Chase dates back to 1834, and was first run as a cross country race on the commons near Cheltenham. The event was cancelled during the 1860s before being resurrected in the early 20th century. The Grand Annual Chase was added to the Cheltenham Festival card in 1913.
The Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase is named after Johnny Henderson, a racehorse owner and the father of top national hunt trainer, Nicky Henderson.
