2016 Close Brothers Novices Handicap Chase

The Centenary Novices Handicap Chase (previously known as the Jewson Novices’ Handicap Chase, and raced on day three of the Festival) is one of the lower-profile races at the Cheltenham Festival. This handicap race carries a Class A listed rating, and is one of the most open, competitive races run at the Cheltenham Festival.

Entry to the Centenary Novices Handicap Chase is restricted to racehorses over the age of 5. The race covers a 2 miles and 5 furlongs over the Cheltenham Racecourse new course. The Centenary Novices Handicap Chase is a recent addition to the Cheltenham Festival card, and was first run as part of the meeting’s expansion in 2005.
