McCoy may take over from Thornton in Ryanair Chase
Tony McCoy is on standby to ride Voy Por Ustedes in the Ryanair Chase if designated jockey, Andrew Thornton, loses his battle to regain fitness for the race.
Thornton took a kick to the kidneys during yesterday's Queen Mother Champion Chase after he was unseated by second favourite Big Zeb in the early stages of the race.
Thornton was prevented from racing for the remainder of the day, despite reporting that he had fully recovered within an hour of the fall.
Despite Thornton's determination to compete in the Ryanair Chase on the short odds favourite, Sir Robert Ogden, Voy Por Ustedes owner, has asked Tony McCoy to remain on standby for the race.
McCoy does not have a ride for the Ryanair Chase and also has experience riding Voy Por Ustedes.
"My understanding is that 'Choc' was feeling okay half an hour or so after the fall, but he's gone for a scan and will have to pass the doctor in the morning," Ogden's racing manager, Barry Simpson, told Sky Sports.
"I'm reasonably confident he'll be on board, but we've got 'AP' on standby just in case"
