Cheltenham Festival 2008 - Day 3 Reviewed

Day three of the Cheltenham Festival put on a packed schedule of racing. Although the weather was by no means balmy, conditions were good enough to facilitate a thoroughly entertaining day of racing.

The first of the Cheltenham Festival 2008 races run on Thursday was the Peter O'Sullevan National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup. Old Benny won the race at 9/1 Cheltenham Festival odds, followed by Over the Creek and Back on the Line.

Only one of the joint favourites for the Royal & SunAlliance Chase came good as Albertas Run won the race, followed by long odds runners Roll Along and Battle Cry.

The Jewson Novices’ Handicap Chase would have made a pile for bookmakers as not one ante-post favourite showed. Finger On the Pulse won the race, followed by Barber’s Shop and Possol.

The delayed Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Chase was worth the wait. Tamarinbleu led the field for the first half of the race, then went off the pace as Voy Por Ustedes battled Master Minded for the lead. Master Minded won the tussle, consigning Voy Por Ustedes to second place as Fair Along took third place.

The Ryanair Chase was a good Cheltenham Festival 2008 race for punters. Ante-post predictions played out favourably as both short odds favourites placed, with Our Vic taking the win. Mossbank finished ahead of Turko.

Following the Ryanair Chase Inglis Drever made history in the World Hurdle by claiming his third title, becoming the first horse to achieve this feat. Kasbah Bliss and Kazal finished in second and third place.

Mr Goldrick made his backers happy in the Racing Post Plate winning the race at 66-1 odds. Short-odds Gwanako came in second ahead of Fundamentalist.

The Pertemps Final Handicap Hurdle provided more upsets as 18-1 outsider Ballyfitz pushed ante-post favourite Miko de Beauchene into second place. According to Pete claimed third place.

High Chimes won the Kim Muir Challenge Cup Handicap Chase in miserable conditions. 18/1 Openide took third place ahead of 12/1 Burntoakboy.

12/1 priced Cousin Vinny won the last of the 2008 Cheltenham Festival races for day 3, the Weatherby’s Champion Bumper, to conclude the day’s racing. He was followed home by Corkskeagh Royale in second place and pre-race favourite Zaarito in third place.
